Award Winning Designer

David Dixon's career in design and construction spans over 17 years, during which time he has guided the company to numerous awards for designing and constructing show gardens at RHS Shows. Most notably our garden “A Place for Waste” received a coveted RHS Gold Medal at the 2009 RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park.

Drawing from his site experience and, following on from his studies, David established Greenvision Garden Design in July 2008.  Starting with a show garden at the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park, where he achieved a Bronze Medal for his exhibition “Suspended Thoughts”, David returned to the show in 2009 with “A Place for Waste”, for which he was awarded a coveted RHS Gold Medal.

We were invited by our clients in Chorlton, Manchester to design a sustainable garden that would complement their retro fitted passive home.

We worked collaboratively to achieve this garden, a fully functioning dry gravel garden with minimal hard landscaping.

Due to careful planting choices this garden requires no watering even in prolonged dry periods.

Waste materials garden

RHS Tatton Park Flower Show 2009
Knutsford, Cheshire

RHS Gold Medal

The garden was designed to incorporate waste materials. Gabion cages filled with wine bottles as well as broken brick and tile formed the raised beds. The fencing and bench were constructed using off cuts of timber. Incorporated into the back fence, the water feature that was copper pipe off cuts with water running down the face.

Crushed slate (a by-product from a Welsh quarry) was used for the pathways edged with upturned beer bottles. Seasonal herbaceous planting softened the clean lines of the design with birch trees to provide a feeling of enclosure in the space.

RHS Silver-Gilt Award

The garden was designed to showcase how a modern garden could be constructed as sustainably as possible.

Local stone from a Macclesfield Quarry, reclaimed bricks and FSC certified timber were used to create the structure of the garden. With a bold ‘Minimal’ planting scheme to reinforce the message.
