Garden Design Process
Greenvision garden design offers a flexible approach to new garden designs
Working with our clients, we offer a range of design services to suit all budgets for gardens, landscapes and outdoor spaces in Cheshire, Manchester and surrounding areas of Altrincham, Hale, Bowdon, Knutsford, Wilmslow, Didsbury and Chorlton.
How we work
Every garden is unique, and each project has a life of its own, but they tend to follow a similar journey.
Initial contact and advice
Our clients usually get in touch via telephone or email. During these initial conversations we will discuss your project with you and explore which of our services are best suited to your project and budget. If you wish to proceed, we make an appointment for an initial site visit.
Initial visit
The first step is to have a formal chat in person about your garden. This is where we can get to know you and discuss what you would like from your garden, enabling us to create your client brief.
Site survey
We like to survey the majority of sites ourselves. That way we can be sure to obtain all the relevant information we need to make a start designing your garden. If the site is large or complex, then a land surveyor may be required at an additional cost.
Concept design via 3D visuals
The best way to convey initial ideas to our clients is by using 3D Visuals and Mood boards. A number of design meetings are held to talk ideas through, and Visuals revised until we have a finalised concept.
Photo realistic 3D renders and fly through animation. If you are looking to really immerse yourself into your new garden before it is physically built, then through a third party, we can supply Photo realistic 3D renders and fly through animation. Charged PER REVISION, we provide sketch concepts prior to commissioning to ensure costs are kept reasonable.
Landscapers plan
Once visuals have been signed off then a detailed scaled drawing of the garden is required for landscape contractors to quote and build from. The plans are accompanied by a full written specification which details the landscaping work, material choices and if required lighting scheme.
Planting plan
Further meetings will be held to discuss planting. The planting plan shows the locations of all proposed plants, including a plant schedule listing exact names, quantities and sizes used to obtain costing, ordering and setting out.
Implementation
We work closely with a number of quality landscape contractors and are always happy to recommend who we feel would be suitable for a project.
Generally speaking, the landscape contractors will quote a client directly for all hard landscaping works and we provide a quote for supplying and planting when required. We are also happy to quote to implement lighting schemes and source items like sculptures, furniture and planters.
On-going maintenance and support
We take every opportunity to revisit past projects to see how they are maturing and offer one free visit the following spring to all design and build projects to offer advice on maintenance requirements.
Short design service
Typically suited to smaller projects, i.e. a courtyard, small garden or driveway. After an initial meeting to discuss your needs, we will carry out a full survey of your garden.
From here we will go away to draw up three options or “concept designs” to scale. Finally we will meet again to present these to you.
Full design service
Typically suited to larger projects or a client that is looking to explore design options in more detail. After an initial meeting to discuss your needs, we will carry out a full survey of your garden.
From here we will go on to return a client brief to you for your approval, explore concept designs, progressing to a final plan and planting plans. And, if required, project management and planting implementation.
Project management and consultancy services
Clients looking for advice or help with their gardens may find our hourly consultancy services more affordable, and better suited to their needs. We charge an hourly rate of £60 for this service.
You may also make use of this service if you have had your garden designed by ourselves or another Garden Designer and would like to appoint us as project managers to see the build run smoothly.
